The Lasco 406015SW is a 1.5 inch SCH40 PVC 90 degree sweep elbow with slip sockets on both ends.

Why a sweep and not a standard 90

A standard elbow turns water in a tight corner. A sweep does the same job over a longer radius, so the flow bends instead of slamming into a wall. On a pool system that adds up: every tight 90 costs head, and a pad built with six or seven of them makes the pump work measurably harder than the same run built with sweeps.

Fitting it

Both ends are slip sockets for 1.5 inch schedule 40 pipe, joined with PVC primer and solvent cement. Dry fit the run first, because once the cement is on you have seconds to set the angle where you want it.

What is the difference between a sweep elbow and a regular 90?

A sweep has a longer radius, so the water changes direction over a greater distance. That means less turbulence and less resistance than a standard short radius 90.

What size pipe does it take?

1.5 inch SCH40 pipe, on both ends.

Are the ends slip or threaded?

Slip. Both sockets are solvent welded with PVC primer and cement.

Where would I use one?

Anywhere a run has to turn and you want to keep restriction down, particularly on suction lines and around the equipment pad where several turns stack up.
