Quick overview

  • 900 lumens on 19 watts, the output of a much larger fixture from a 2 inch face.
  • Marine grade stainless heatsink with a machined cooling groove that pulls cooler water up over it as the light runs.
  • Up to 40% cooler LED junctions than a sealed polymer housing, which is what keeps the color from fading.
  • Over 90% of its brightness at 30,000 hours, not the output it had on day one only.
  • 14 programs from the wall switch, seven shows and five fixed colors, plus color lock and recall. No controller needed.
  • Synchronizes with Pentair IntelliBrite on the same switch, so a mixed pool changes color together.

Product details

The CaliGlow Pro P-Series is a 2 inch nicheless LED light for inground pools and spas. It puts out 900 lumens on 19 watts, which is the brightness of a much larger fixture from something that measures 5.48 inches long and 2.2 inches across the face, and it installs into standard 1-1/2 inch or 2 inch Schedule 40 PVC rather than needing a traditional niche.

The cooling is the reason it lasts

LEDs dim as they get hot, which is why cheap pool lights fade years before they fail. The core of this one is solid marine grade stainless steel, and a machined groove system turns the fixture into a chimney: as it runs, cooler water is drawn from the bottom of the housing up across the heatsink. That passive circulation holds LED junction temperatures up to 40 percent below a sealed polymer housing, and the light still delivers over 90 percent of its original output at 30,000 hours.

Fourteen programs from the wall switch

Seven color shows, five fixed colors, and a color lock that freezes a show on any shade you like plus a return that recalls it. Selecting one takes no controller: cycle the switch off and on the number of times that matches the program. If you already run Pentair IntelliBrite lights on the same switch, these synchronize with them, so a mixed pool comes up in one color.

Before you order

This is a low voltage fixture and it needs a listed Class 2 transformer, 100W or 300W, stepping 120 VAC down to 12 to 14 VAC, on a GFCI protected circuit. With that transformer and the CaliGlow Pro 2 inch wall fitting the system is non metallic, so it needs no bonding or grounding under the current NEC. Installation is electrician work. The lens has to sit at least 4 inches below the water surface, and the plumbing needs 7 inches of vertical clearance between the top thread of the wall fitting and the bottom reducer.

In the box: the light on a 50 foot cord, an installation tool, a plaster cover and O-ring lube. Backed by a 3 year limited warranty from CaliMar.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Do I need a niche for this light?
No. It is a nicheless fixture and installs into 1-1/2 inch or 2 inch Schedule 40 PVC with the appropriate reducers, behind a CaliGlow Pro wall fitting. What the plumbing does need is 7 inches of vertical clearance between the topmost thread of the wall fitting and the seating surface of the bottom reducer, and the luminaire has to pass freely through the 1-1/2 inch threaded adapter, so check that before gluing anything.
What transformer does it need?
A listed Class 2 isolating low voltage transformer, 100 W or 300 W, stepping 120 VAC down to 12 to 14 VAC, on a circuit protected by a GFCI. The light draws 19 W at most, so a 100 W transformer carries several of them. The transformer and junction box have to sit at least 8 inches above water level, 4 inches above ground and 48 inches back from the pool edge.
How do I change colors without a controller?
Cycle the wall switch off and back on the number of times that matches the program you want. One is the SAM show, two is Party, three is Romance, four is Caribbean, five is American, six is California Sunset, seven is Royal, then eight through twelve are the fixed colors. The count is always the same regardless of what is playing now. The pool is dark while you cycle, so do it with nobody in the water.
Will it work with my existing Pentair lights?
Yes, if they are IntelliBrite and wired to the same switch. They synchronize automatically once installed, so the whole pool shows the same color and show together. Connected to a Pentair controller instead, you pick colors and shows from the controller rather than by cycling the switch.
Does it need bonding or grounding?
Not when it is powered by a listed Class 2 100 W or 300 W transformer and installed with the CaliGlow Pro 2 inch wall fitting, because that combination is a complete non metallic low voltage system under the current NEC. That is a code question with local variation though, so the electrician doing the install is the one who signs off on it.
