Quick overview

  • Variable speed, 450 to 3450 RPM, so filtration runs slow and quiet and full speed is there when you need it.
  • ENERGY STAR 2.0 listed with a WEF rating of 7.5, the figure most utility rebate programs are written against.
  • Permanent magnet TEFC motor runs cooler and quieter than the induction motor it replaces.
  • 2 in. threaded ports match standard inground plumbing on both suction and discharge.
  • Clear lid, quarter turn lock over a large strainer basket, so clearing leaves needs no tools.
  • Corrosion proof thermoplastic body with a stainless steel shaft and a carbon to ceramic mechanical seal.

Product details

The CaliMar CMARVSP1.0 is a 1 HP variable speed pump built for inground pools, spas, water features and fountains. Thick walled body castings, engineered hydraulics and a heavy duty totally enclosed fan cooled motor are what let it run a full season on a pad that sees sun, rain and chlorine.

Why variable speed matters

A single speed pump moves water at one rate whether you are filtering overnight or vacuuming. This one runs anywhere from 450 to 3450 RPM, so filtration happens slowly and quietly for most of the day and full speed is reserved for cleaning and backwashing. Moving the same water more slowly uses far less power, which is why the pump carries a WEF rating of 7.5 and is listed under ENERGY STAR 2.0. That listing is also what most utility rebate programs are written against.

Built to stay serviceable

The permanent magnet motor produces less noise and vibration than the induction motors it replaces. Wetted components are molded from corrosion proof reinforced thermoplastic, the shaft is stainless steel and the mechanical seal uses American designed carbon to ceramic sealing faces. A large strainer basket sits under a clear engineered polymer lid that stays transparent instead of clouding, and the lid locks with a quarter turn, so checking the basket is a ten second job rather than a tool job.

Before you order

This model is specified at 230V single phase, 10A, so confirm the circuit at the pump pad is 230V. Suction and discharge are 2 in. threaded ports, the standard size on inground systems. The pump is self priming and carries a NEMA Type 3 environmental rating for outdoor installation.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Will this fit my existing plumbing?
Suction and discharge are both 2 in. threaded ports, which is the standard size on inground systems, so most pads take it without adapters. Measure the footprint and the height of your union centers before ordering. Older pumps sat at different heights and a short length of pipe is sometimes needed to line the new pump up with the existing runs.
Does it have to be wired for 230V?
Yes. This model is specified at 230V single phase, 10A. Confirm what the circuit at the pump pad actually is before ordering, and have an electrician change it if it is not 230V. Variable speed pumps are also commonly required to be on their own circuit, so check local code.
What does the WEF rating of 7.5 mean?
WEF is the weighted energy factor, the gallons a pump moves per watt hour across a weighted duty cycle. Higher is better. At 7.5 with an ENERGY STAR 2.0 listing this pump meets the bar most utility rebate programs set for variable speed pumps, though each program keeps its own approved model list, so check yours before you count on a rebate.
Is it noticeably quieter than a single speed pump?
At filtration speeds, yes. The permanent magnet motor produces less vibration than an induction motor, and most of the noise from a pool pump scales with how fast the water is moving. Running at 1200 to 1800 RPM for the bulk of the day is where both the quiet and the savings come from.
