  • Low 1/3 lb cracking pressure A light spring opens with very little differential, which is what a low flow line needs.
  • 1.5 inch socket by 2 inch spigot One end takes 1.5 inch pipe into the socket, the other is a 2 inch spigot that goes into a 2 inch fitting.
  • One way only A check valve stops water travelling back up the line when the system shuts down.
  • Protects upstream equipment Backflow is what pushes pool water into places it does not belong, and a working check valve is the cheap defense.

Product details

The DELCHECK CO-0101 is a check valve with a 1/3 pound spring, plumbed 1.5 inch socket by 2 inch spigot.

What the spring rating tells you

Every check valve needs a small pressure difference before it opens. The 1/3 pound rating here is deliberately light, so a line that is not carrying much flow can still push the valve open rather than sitting closed against it. Fitting a heavier spring in the same place is a common way to strangle a low flow circuit.

Direction and sizing

A check valve is directional, and gluing one in backwards means cutting it out again. Check the flow marking on the body before you dry fit. Sizing is worth a second look too: the listing describes the valve as 1.5 inch socket by 2 inch spigot in one place and simply as 2 inch in another, so measure both ends of the valve you are removing.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What does 1/3# mean on a check valve?
It is the spring rating, the pressure needed to crack the valve open. A 1/3 pound spring is a light one, chosen so a low flow line can still push it open.
What are the connection sizes?
A 1.5 inch socket on one end and a 2 inch spigot on the other. The source also lists the valve simply as 1/3# and 2 inch, so measure both ends of what you are replacing before you cut anything.
Which way does it go in?
A check valve only works in one direction. Find the flow marking on the body and orient it with the direction of travel before gluing.
What does a check valve actually prevent?
Water running backwards through the line once flow stops. That backflow is what lets pool water reach equipment that was never meant to see it.
