The Val-Pak V38-150 is a replacement lid with air relief for American Products Commander cartridge filters. It is the part to order when the original lid is cracked, distorted or no longer seals.
Why lids fail
A filter lid spends its life under pressure, in sunlight, and gets removed and clamped down again every time the cartridge is cleaned. Over the years the plastic goes brittle, and cracks tend to start around the air relief boss or where the clamp band bears on the rim. Once the lid is cracked, no amount of tightening will hold pressure, and overtightening usually finishes it off.
Air relief
The relief is how the tank is bled. Open it on startup and leave it open until water comes out, so the tank is full of water rather than running with a pocket of trapped air. This lid comes with that relief.
