Product details

Sta-Rite 14971-SM20E12 is the spider gasket for 2 in. multiport valves. It has five spokes and a 6-5/8 in. outside diameter, and it is the part that seals one port from the next inside the valve body.

What it fixes

The spider gasket takes the whole load every time the handle moves, and it flattens and hardens with age. When it goes, the valve stops respecting the position it is set to: water runs to waste with the handle on filter, or unfiltered water finds its way back to the pool. Nothing else in the valve produces that symptom the same way.

Getting the size right

This is the 2 in. gasket. The 1-1/2 in. valve takes a smaller gasket with a different spoke pattern, so lay the old one next to the measurement above before you order. It is listed as a service part for the Sta-Rite 2 in. Cristal-Flo top mount valve and for the Sta-Rite 1-1/2 in. and 2 in. side mount multiports.

How do I know this is the right size?
It is the 2 in. valve gasket with five spokes and a 6-5/8 in. outside diameter. If your old gasket measures smaller or has a different spoke count, you have a 1-1/2 in. valve and need the other gasket.
What are the symptoms of a worn spider gasket?
Water going where the handle says it should not: flow to waste while the valve is set to filter, or the pool clouding because the valve is passing between ports internally.
Does the cover o-ring come with it?
No. The 2 in. cover o-ring is a separate Sta-Rite part. Since the valve has to come apart either way, most techs change both.
