Product details

Pool Season Giant Size Chlorinating Tablets are 3 inch, 8 ounce compressed trichlor tablets built for automatic chlorinators, floating dispensers and skimmer baskets. At 99% Trichloro-s-triazinetrione they carry 90% available chlorine, which is the highest concentration available in a stabilized tablet.

The stabilizer is built into the tablet rather than added separately. Cyanuric acid shields free chlorine from ultraviolet light, which is what otherwise burns off most of a day's sanitizer in direct summer sun. That is the difference between topping up daily and topping up weekly.

What it does

Kills bacteria, destroys organic contaminants and controls algae. Because trichlor is acidic it also slows the pH rise typical of liquid chlorine, so you buy less acid across a season.

How to use it

Load tablets into an automatic chlorinator, floater or skimmer basket. Never drop tablets directly into the pool or onto a vinyl liner, and never mix with any other chemical. Wait until tablets have fully dissolved before adding more.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Can I put these tablets straight into the pool or the skimmer?
Use an automatic chlorinator, a floating dispenser or the skimmer basket. Never drop a tablet on the pool floor or on a vinyl liner. Undissolved trichlor sitting against a surface is acidic enough to bleach and etch it.
How many tablets do I need, and how often?
A common starting point is one 3 inch tablet per 10,000 gallons per week, then adjust to hold 1 to 3 ppm free chlorine. Bather load, heat and rainfall all move that number, so test before you add rather than working to a fixed schedule.
Do these already contain stabilizer?
Yes. Cyanuric acid is compressed into the tablet rather than added separately, which is what protects free chlorine from ultraviolet light. Over a long season that stabilizer accumulates, so test cyanuric acid occasionally and dilute if it climbs too high.
What is the difference between the 8, 25 and 50 lb buckets?
Only the quantity. The tablets are identical. The 25 lb bucket holds 50 tablets and works out cheapest per pound of the three.
Will these lower my pH?
Trichlor is acidic, so it pushes pH down as it dissolves. That is usually welcome, because most other things in a pool push it up, and it is why stabilized tablets tend to reduce how much acid you buy across a season.
How should I store them, and how long do they last?
Sealed, dry and cool, away from every other chemical. Three to five years is normal in those conditions. Never store or mix trichlor with calcium hypochlorite or any other oxidizer.
Why are the tablets individually wrapped?
So you handle the wrapper instead of the tablet. It cuts the dust and the fumes you get from an open bucket and keeps the remaining tablets from fusing together in humidity.
Can these ship by air or express?
No. Trichlor is a regulated oxidizer and moves by ground only. That applies to every carrier, so the shipping options at checkout are limited accordingly.
