Why this specification exists
Commercial water is harder on a heater than a backyard pool. Bather load, aggressive chemistry and salt all attack the water side first, so this build pairs a cupro-nickel exchanger with a bronze header instead of the copper and cast assemblies used on residential heaters. ASME certification is the other half of the picture, and is commonly required on public and commercial installations.
Control and ignition
The digital IID control lights the burner on demand rather than holding a standing pilot, and the digital interface gives readable setpoints and fault codes rather than a dial.

Confirm two things: the gas supply is propane, not natural gas, and the installation sits within the listed elevation range, given as 0 to 2000 ft in one source and 0 to 1999 ft in another. A higher site needs the altitude specific version.

Is this a natural gas or a propane heater?
Propane. The EP in B-R266A-EP-X is the propane build.
Why the cupro-nickel exchanger?
Cupro-nickel stands up to aggressive water far better than copper, which is why it is specified for commercial pools, salt water and heavy bather loads.
What does the ASME rating mean for my project?
ASME certification is what commercial and public pool installations are commonly required to carry. If the job is a residential backyard pool, a non ASME heater is usually the cheaper fit.
