Pool Season Non-Chlorine Shock is an oxygen based oxidizing treatment, supplied here as six 1 lb bags.
Oxygen rather than chlorine
Shocking a pool is about oxidizing the organic load that swimmers leave behind: sweat, oils, lotion and the rest. Chlorine shock does that by pushing chlorine levels high enough to burn it off, which means waiting for the level to come back down before anyone swims. This one oxidizes with potassium peroxymonosulfate instead, at 42.8% with active oxygen at 4.5%, so it clears the load without adding to the chlorine already in the water.
Back in the water in 15 minutes
That is the practical difference. Treated water is ready for swimmers a quarter of an hour later, which makes it a shock that can be used on a weekday evening rather than one that costs the rest of the day.
