Product details

This bundle closes an 18 foot round above ground pool in one order: the Emperor solid winter cover, a 15k chemical closing kit and a 4 by 4 foot air pillow.

The cover

The cover is 22 feet round, which gives a 4 foot overlap on an 18 foot pool. It is 8 mil black on tan triple laminated polyethylene with heat sealed seams, and the edge carries a sewn-in polypropylene cord with aluminum grommets every three feet. A deluxe aluminum cable winch and a vinyl coated steel lock down cable are included to pull it tight around the top rail. It is backed by a 20 year warranty.

Chemicals and the pillow

The 15k chemical closing kit treats the water before the cover goes on, sized for a pool of roughly 15,000 gallons. The 4 by 4 foot air pillow floats in the center under the cover, absorbing ice expansion so the pressure does not go into the pool walls and shedding rain toward the edges instead of letting it collect in a pocket.

My pool is 18' round. Why is the cover 22'?
The extra 4 feet is deliberate overlap. A winter cover has to reach past the water and over the top rail so the cable and winch can pull it tight, so cover sizes always run larger than the pool.
What does the air pillow do?
It floats under the cover in the center. As ice forms it takes the expansion pressure that would otherwise push outward against the pool walls, and it keeps rain and melt water running to the edges instead of pooling in the middle.
Is the closing kit sized for my pool?
The kit included here is the 15k version, meaning it is measured for a pool of about 15,000 gallons. Check your water volume against that figure before you dose.
Do I need anything else to hold the cover down?
The deluxe aluminum cable winch and the vinyl coated steel lock down cable are both in the box, which is what secures the cover on an above ground pool. Cover clips are a separate item some owners add in high wind.
