Quick overview

  • Complete seal assembly Both halves of the mechanical seal, supplied as a matched set.
  • Listed for Sta-Rite pumps Referenced against the Sta-Rite Max-E-Glas and Dura-Glas pump families.
  • The part behind most pump leaks Water dripping from between the motor and the wet end is a failed shaft seal, not a bad housing.
  • Always replace as a pair The rotating face and the stationary seat wear together, which is why they are sold together.
  • Do it with the impeller off The seal goes in while the wet end is apart, so pair it with any impeller or gasket work.
  • Cheap part, expensive failure Left leaking, a shaft seal sends water down the shaft and into the motor bearings.

Product details

The U.S. Seal PS100 is a complete mechanical shaft seal assembly, listed against Sta-Rite pool pumps including the Max-E-Glas and Dura-Glas families.

What the shaft seal does

The motor shaft has to pass out of the dry motor and into the wet end of the pump. The mechanical seal is what makes that possible: a spring loaded face turning against a fixed ceramic seat, polished flat enough to hold water back while the shaft spins. It is a wear part by design.

How you know it has failed

Water appears at the joint between the pump housing and the motor, usually as a drip that gets worse over a season. Once it starts, the water runs along the shaft toward the motor bearings, so this is not a leak to live with. Replace the seal as a matched pair, rotating face and seat together, and check the shaft and the seal plate for scoring while everything is apart.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Which pumps is this listed for?
Sta-Rite pool pumps, referenced against the Max-E-Glas and Dura-Glas parts listings. Confirm the seal number against your pump before ordering.
Is this the whole seal or just one half?
The whole assembly. The rotating half and the stationary seat come together, which is the only sensible way to fit them.
My pump drips between the motor and the housing. Is this the fix?
That is the classic shaft seal symptom. Water appearing at the joint between the wet end and the motor is coming past the seal, and the seal is what has to be replaced.
Can I reuse the old seat if it looks fine?
No. The two faces bed into each other in service, so a new rotating face on an old seat will leak. Fit the pair.
